HR Thoughts…Week Ending 2.16.2024

We’re at the end of another week, so it’s time for some HR Thoughts.

  1. Plan, but be open to change.

Who doesn’t want to kick off the year with a strong plan? I know I do, and it’s something that I will never stop recommending to my clients. However, HR planning is never concrete. People's needs within your organization will invariably shift, so building flexibility into your carefully constructed plan is important. You don’t want one shift to derail the entire year. And please always remember, that a change of plans is not a failure on your part. Change happens. Where you can prevent failure is by building up your appetite to quickly adjust and navigate unplanned situations with focus and alignment with your team and the organization's goals.

  2. Just keep learning.

You’re never too good at what you do to learn something new. This is true for just about anything, with HR being no exception. You may have done something one way for the last ten years, but guess what? A new technology or tool may disrupt that process. And that’s OK. A willingness to learn will make the HR function one that truly meets the needs of your team.

  3. Know the why behind your DEI efforts.

Are you making a move toward building DEIB into the way you operate into a business? If so, why? Do you know why it’s important or are you just doing small things so that you can put out an appealing social media post or a new writeup on your website?
